Montana-logged
a couple of things have run through my mind that i forgot to mention earlier.
oregon. when i pulled up to the gas pumps in albany to fill up, i reset my trip meter, turned off the key, flipped my tankbag up, unlocked the cap, swiped my credit card when all of the sudden, this random guy jumps between me and the pump äsking,"and what are you looking for today?" i snarled, "thought i would fill up with gas, do you mind?!?" he proceeds to start pushing buttons on the pump and hands me the pump handle. sheesh, i was really annoyed. i thought there was no way i was going to give this bum a tip for this!
boy was my face red when hiler explained to me later that it's an oregon law and the business can get a $500 fine if someone other than the employee retrieves the handle from the pump. LAME!!!
then we got to grants pass, oregon. i thought i was in the twilight zone! i saw a sign that said it was a "safety corridor" for the next 7 miles. they had some ridiculously low speed limit and they all complied!!! i thought my eyeballs would explode before we could find the way out of there. i will never go there again.
we've been here since thursday night and i'm beginning to feel my iq and energy level drop. although i think it was worthwhile to come here, visit family, extend our stay by a day, i'm REALLY looking forward to red lodge and some squiggly lines on the map beginning tomorrow.
today i took a ride up to havre, mt to tour the underground city. it was interesting and got me out on the road for a few hours. it was two-lane but pretty boring. thank goodness for ipods and fabulous earphones. (thanks again for the recommendation jeff!)
i'm ready to go. tonight i repack the tailpack, ye is cleaning and lubing the chains. we depart at 0500.
