Onward
okay, so where was i?
oh, predicting a 5:00 a.m. departure. shyeah, right. well, we wanted to stick around long enough to bid mother ywr a fond farewell. and that we did. that left us departing about 7:45 a.m. but worth the delay for sure.
we headed down a few roads that occassionally had a curve, turned a few corners and then we arrived at red lodge. we had lunch of a couple of greek salads at a quirky little place called "bogarts". then we headed south.
wow.
beautiful as we climbed, and climbed, and rode switchback after switchback so far up i dared not look over the side of the very small barrier between me and 11,000 ft. down. what a time to have acrophobia. ;-)
and the most delicious thing about such a high climb is what goes up, must come down. and down we came with delectably similar twisties and switchbacks. two thumbs up and a bug in the teeth for that one!
and that brought us to . . .wyoming. gosh, what can i say about wyoming? we took one of the roads that had those little scenic dots beside it, but i never saw the scenic part. then, in the midst of our boredom, mr. younger-than-most-of-the-shoes in-my-closet, wyoming state trooper pulls us over for speeding. good heavens! i wasn't even leaning!!!
to be honest, i had no idea what the speed limit even was or how fast we were going. i had long ago zoned out from boredom. so mr. trooper pops over the top of this hill, approaches and flips his lights on. before he could turn his squad car around, we had pulled over since we were the only vehicles on the road. sure enough, mr. aviator-glasses writes us up. sigh. that meant going considerably slower through the rest of the state.
amazingly enough, that mileage that i had been struggling with, running out of gas at 144 and such, was greatly increased with the lower speeds. my next gas stop was at 192 miles. wow, maybe ye was right when he said the reason for my poor mileage was all in the twist of my right hand. who knew?!?
we spent the night in rock springs, wy that night. i think we got the last room in the town, frequented a local jb's down the street for some grub and went back to the room to sleep. i know we turned the tv on once, but we had some reading to catch up on so it was off before we even found anything interesting.
the next morning we were off to colorado. it was only about 250 miles and we left quite late the next morning. we had slept in and were slow to pack up knowing that it would be a short day. anywho. . .once we hit colorado, the road turned to crap. and that was a shame because it was twistie and wonderful scenery. the road surface, however, left much to be desired and we were disappointed in the riding for that day.
